Impeachment of Richard Nixon

Richard Nixon is the only person in America history being elected twice to the offices of vice president and president, and the only one to resign from the office (in the face of likely impeachment by the United States House of Representatives). According to Hillary Rodham Clinton's Living History: " The charges against President Nixon included paying off witnesses to silence them or influence their testimony, misusing the Internal Revenue Service to obtain the tax records of private citizens, directing the FBI and the Secret Service to spy on American and maintaining a secret investigative unit within the Office of the President." Wait a minute, is this what one can do under the legal system of a democratic country? I though only people in communist or socialist country are that dirty....

During the impeachment inquiry, the committee head John Doar directed the staff (carefully selected smart lawyers including Hillary) to use index cards to sort facts. They "typed one fact per card -- the date of a memo, the topic of a meeting-- and cross referenced with other facts". They eventually compiled more than five hundred thousand (half a million!) index cards. That is really amazing considering an age without personal computers. At the same time, Nixon should really pay back the cost incurred, all from tax money. It is azaming that how a government can spend huge amount of money invisibly.
