Free software collections

Why do we need free softwares? First of all, we are not all that rich, and need something affordable to start with. Once we got to know what exactly can do and need, we can start to go for commercial ones with better performance and support. Secondly, there are often small matters than do not really need big shot and expensive systems to work on. When we do not mind a bit more clicks, or a few more times of restart (because of errors; on the other hand, I still have to reboot my XP or Vista from time to time now), then the freebies can make us as happy.
The following are what I have researched and most of them are my favorite daily tools. They are the links to my individual posts in this same blog spot (pan intended :) ). I listed them up here because all of them are the REAL free ones. No license requirement any time, neither registrations of any kind. A lot of them are portable, which means cleaner environment (a.k.a better performance).
The following too posts are what I quoted from magazines I read, for my personal references.
As might have been experienced by the readers, it often is a painful task to look for freebies. A lot of site claims that they have free softwares, or pretend to. I have to spend time filtering the false search candidates, and also test by installations to get rid of the disguised free ones. I will also keep it updated, since it is a great reference for myself too.
Here is another piece of advise, for those who happened to have no knowledge about. Virtual PC (Microsoft Virtual PC, or Virtual Box) can be of great help to keep one's computer clean, if one every tries to do the same thing as I have been doing.
Please let me know if there is any obsolete or broken links.
Advices, suggestions, or any feedbacks are also greatly appreciated!
