Nowadays, employees in a company belong to the category of "human resource" (HR), the same one as any other types of resources. When a company is in trouble, the first thing, and easiest to do is to cut HR. Unlike other type of resources, HR is usually the most costly part, and ever lasting as long as the clock ticks.
HR has a short history before its predeccesor of personel. Since the society is change faster and faster in the past decades, I suggest a more durable term in place of HR: operational resource (OR). Most of the places are still operated by human beings now, but in the near future, more and more will be replace by machines.
This new term will ensure a smoother transition to new "high tech" era. People will feel less shocked or depressed when more and more have to render their job to machines. The society will have less turmoil, violent or non-violent.
The idea of companies being operated by machine is highly possible, because the operation styles of most of the big companies are so predicatable. Less and less human factors are being put into consideration. More and more decisions are being made based on spreadsheet. A machine is far more accurate, punctual, energetic and emotionless than most of human being. Software packages have been playing important roles in many areas, including decision making in stock trading. Why not leave the troublesome enterprise operation to machines?
