Tamagawa River (or Tama River 多摩川) is about 10 minutes away by bycicle from where I am living. It has a paved path along the river for jogging and cycling purpose. There are many sports grounds, where grass root baseball matches are constantly on. The river bank is covered with grass bush. I always enjoy long walks along the river, or playing with water and stones at river side with my son. I also took many cycling trips along it, mostly alone, and sometimes with my son.
Getting tired of preparation for an exam in next week, I left home at 3:00PM, and took about 10 minutes to reach Tama River. From there, started at the highest speed I figured I could maintain for some time. I decided to go on this trip today because the weather report says it is cloudy and the highest temperature will be below 30 degree celcius. The first 10km was quite fun, not only because it was the freshest moments of my body, but also because the road codition of this first 10km is also the best. There are no much ups and downs, neither intersection with other roads. After riding for about 11km, I need to get off the river bank for about 1km, cross a small bridge, get over some bumpy roads, before reaching the other part of path. The later part has much more variety. Sometimes it goes through park; sometimes among trees, sometimes by baseball courts, sometimes along swimming complex, sometimes along small factories or wharehouses. FInnally it ends up at the entrance of hiking path. I used to avoid it and chose driving roads to go to Osaku station. But this time, I gave it a try, but ended up at the Aso Shrine, to which, I have to carry my bycicle up.
Had dinner at steak house Don. The Don salad mix is supposed to be for four to six people, but just enough for me. It has mostly lettes, and roast meat, cheeze, tamato, brocli, boiled egg, baby bean sprout, purple lettece. The sirloin steak wast not bad. The beaf was from Australia. US beaf was a lot cheaper, but I am trying to avoid BSE the best I can.
GPS tracks are here. The road from Chofu to Osaku is in fact a slow up slope. For the same 30km or so, it took me more than two hours to go up, with only a few drinking and photo time. When I came back, it took me only one and a half hour, without any break. But I did took a few wrong turns on the way back.
