The first experience to have a meal in a very popular ramen restaurant in Japan.
Ramen Jiro Kanda Jinbocho always has a long queue, no matter what in a day, and which day in a week. When I went out for a walk after a lot of computer work, I passed it and noticed that there were only 5 people waiting in the front. The time was 5:20PM. Thinking that it must be open from 5:30, and considering it a very good timing, I joined the queue at the end.
5:30PM passed, but nothing happened. I had only a polo shirt. It was quite windy and the temperature was still on the chilly side. Still, I decided to hold on to the chance and waited. In no time, the queue extended to a much longer one. By the time of it's opening at 6:00PM, there were about 25 people waiting.
Order is through a ticket machine. There seemed to be more options, but not written anywhere. The customers in front of me start barking some more orders that sounded like encrypted codes, not comprehensible even if looking at the food they finally got. When it was my turn, I just plainly confessed: "It's the first time for me." Then the cook simply asked me: "Do you want garlic?" Having to return back the office, I replied: "No, please".
The noodle itself tastes more hand-made than anywhere else, and very chewy. The soup though is very oily. There are a lot of vegetables by default, mostly bin sprouts and cabbage. I could have doubled vegetables, but if not requesting, was only given the standard volume. I also ordered double chasiu, thinking that since most shops only give very little, double won't be a huge surprise. But that turned out to be a wrong decision. I later find out that this shop is also famous for the volume. There is no charge for noodle's omori (larger serve, usually 1.5 or even 2 times as much). It turned out that chasiu is also of spectacular size. It took me quite some efforts to finish the meat, which is a bit too salty to me.
Having consumed a lot of salt, and probably MSG, I felt very thirsty even long after the dinner. Next time, if I ever go to this ship, I will order the basic noodle, with double vegetable, and less oil. But it looks like that the timing of order is very strict, not too early, neither too later. Otherwise, one will be scolded for the wrong doings.
