Japan Upper House Election - 参議院選挙

Evening TV shows are among the most boring ones in history, all because of this upper house election 2007 (参議院議員通常選挙). Every channel is competing with the report of the intermediate results. So far, the administration party LDP (Libral Democratic Party) seems to be going to lose the show. Polls (e.g. this; 例えば、これ) before the election has predicted this result. But I always wonder how the polls can affect the actual result. The media is playing more and more critical roles in election. Advertisement of each party, reports about each party (from interpretation of their manifests to scandals) etc. all influences the political views of the voters.

It must have been tough for LPD candidates during this election war. It is like a cancer patient being informed how long his or her life time remains, but the patient is still fighting to get longer than having been announced (余命僅かだと宣告された癌患者が、後数年あるいはもっと長く生きようと努力しているようなもん。(全力で闘病するのは勿論のことではありますが。)). Or it is like a student who is not good at study, but who has to take an exam for a top class university, knowing that he or she will eventually fail anyway (勉強下手な学生がむりやり有名大学の受験をしているようなもんでしょう).
