Smart usge of google Gmail - グーグルメールの活用方法

This is what ASCII Weekly (週刊アスキー) recommended about Google Mail usage.

Information clipping
Use label feature to group mails, including sent/received mails or chat contents. For each items in the mails service, multiple labels can be assigned, enabling hierarchical sorting. As the storage is 6G, and increasing by day, there is no need to delete in order to save space.

Back up space
Use google main as back space for mails on other sites, including mobile mails. When one account is full, apply for more accounts. When this happends, use the new accounts to receive, without leaving copies, from the existing ones as achive.

One address for multiple purposes
By Google Mail, one can receive mails with the same account, but with "alias " /variations of email address.
The first important variation is that if the username is abcde12345, then one can receive email with the adress of abcde12345@gmail.com and abcde12345@googlemail.com.
The first type of alias is to add "." among user name. The resulted email address will be as good as the original one. One example is abcde.12345@gmail.com, for the above example of user name.
The second type of alias to add any letters after user name with "+". One example is abcde.12345+personal@gmail.com, for the above example of user name.
The last alias is to change cases of letters, as google mail does not differenciate letter cases. One example is AbCde.12345+work@gmail.com, for the above example of user name.
One application of the above featuers is to use different variation or alias for different purposes, e.g. work, personal use.

Other convenient tools for more powerful useages
Besides viewing with internet browersers, mailing clients such as Thunder Bird can also be used for viewing and managing Google Mail.
GMail Drive is a tool that convert Google Mail into a network storage. There is also a patch for Japanse users.
To check Google Mail in real-time base, use Google Toolbar, which also has a "send to" feature to clip any web pages into Google Mail's mail box.
